Hawaii hotel occupancy up 6.3% year over year

According to Smith Travel Research and Hospitality Advisers, Hawaii’s hotel occupancy increased 6.3% for the same week last year.  For the week ending September 11th, the occupancy ratio stood at 71.7% up from 65.4% last year.  Hawaii came in ahead again of the national averaged of 54.2%.

Although occupancy rates were up on all of the islands, Oahu came in at the top again at 81.6% up 6.5% from last year. Maui was next at 68.1%, up 10.6% from a year ago.

Statewide Hotel room rates are still down from peak levels and average across the state at $161.19 per night which is a .5% increase from the same week last year.  On Oahu the rate is $150.97 per night which is up 5.1%.

Tourism being one of Hawaii’s major industries effects all of Hawaii, so it is important to keep a close eye on what is happening in that arena.
