Alexander & Baldwin planning to build 2,550 new homes on Maui

Alexander & Baldwin has filed a petition to the state to reclassify approximately 545 acres on Maui from agriculture to urban to build 2,550 new homes on Maui.  The petition was filed with the Hawaii State Land Use Commission to reclassify land in Wailuku and Waikapu for their new development called the Waiale Community project.  The development would include parks, community center, a middle school, and other needed infrastructure.  The project would also provide much needed affordable housing.  This 545 acres is less than 1 percent of the some 246,000 acres zoned for agriculture on the island of Maui
