TJ Maxx opening first Hawaii store in Ward Center

TJ Maxx is opening their first store in Hawaii in Ward Center.  The discount retailer is opening this Thursday a gigantic 35,000 square foot space at the beginning of Auahi Street next door to the Hokua and the Koolani and across the street from the IBM building.  This will be the first of three stores for the Hawaii market.  The other two stores will opening up in Pearl City at the new Pearl City Gateway Center and in Aiea at the uptown part of Pearlridge Center. (Pearlridge Center is owned by Glimcher Realty Trust (GRT)).

The Ward Center shops provide ample shopping, dining and entertainment to the residence living nearby.  The redevelopment of Kakaako has brought in several new condos into the area including as previously stated, the Hokua and the Koolani, but also the Nauru, Hawaiki, and soon to be built Waihonua at Kewalo.  General Growth Properties (GGP) owner of the Ward Center has been bringing in new tenants as of late besides TJ Maxx (TJX) but also names like Men’s Warehouse (MW).
