Ever since I was a little I girl growing up in Kailua, I knew Lanikai was a special place. I remember when the beach was really wide even at the end of Lanikai. The real reason that I and countless other have loved it is because of the Mokulua Islands. These two islands sitting in this deep azure water is so stunning. Once watermelons were grown here in the sandy soil.  The first homes started to pop up in the 1920’s.  It has become more dense with homes, but still has a great neighborly, laid back lifestyle. It has attracted celebrities and wealthy people from all over the world. The residents feel lucky to be able to live there and the rest of us love to visit its beautiful beach.
