Rumors of Billionaire wanting to sell interest in the island of Lanai

Rumors are circulating that Billionaire David Murdock will put up for sale his interest in the island of Lanai.  Currently he owns approximately 98% of the island.  Word is that he opposes a plan to build a large wind farm there.  The project called Big Wind would create a large wind farm and use under water cables to send electricity generated to the island of Oahu.

According to Civil Beat:

The project is part of the energy agreement signed in October 2008 between the State of Hawaii, the state Consumer Advocate and the Hawaiian Electric companies under the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, an earlier agreement signed in January 2008 by the governor of Hawaii and the U.S. Department of Energy

David Murdock has been propping up the Lanai economy for years and if he departs, local residents are very worried about who will come in and how they may change things on the island.
