Honolulu: State requests bids from Developers for Kakaako Land

January 13, 2005

The Hawaii Community Development Authority announced its goals for state-owned land along the Kaka’ako waterfront and Kewalo Basin. They are requesting proposals to redevelop the 36 acres of land at the Kaka’ako Waterfront park and the 29-acre harbor known as Kewalo Basin.

The vision for the area includes space for entertainment, retail, residential use and parking. They want an economically sustainable mixed-use development and a “live-work-play” atmosphere to partner with the University of Hawaii medical school adjacent to the property.

There is a discussion about expanding the harbor to include more slips. A written intent to submit proposals is due by 4pm on February 2, 2005 along with a non-refundable fee of $1000. The chosen developer is expected to be chosen as early as September.
