First wind mill on North Shore

The Kawailoa Wind farm will break ground on the first windmill on land located near Haleiwa on the North Shore.  The farm is expected to generate 69-megawatts when at full capacity.  The land is owned by Kamehameha Schools and the power generated will be sold by Kawailoa Wind Power, which is a subsidiary of Boston based First Wind at set prices to Hawaiian Electric (HE) over the next 20 years.

First Wind also has a wind farm located on Maui which generated 30-megawatts and one out near Kahuku on Oahu that generates about 30-megawatts as well.
