Hawaii real estate statistics September 2014

Hawaii real estate sales statistics for the island of Oahu for the month of September 2014. According to the analysis by the Honolulu real estate board, using data collected from its computerized Multiple Listing Service (MLS) system, the Island housing statistics are:

Oahu, Hawaii, real estate sales increased in September 2014

During September, the median price paid for single-family homes increased 5.0 percent from the same month last year to $678,500. The median price for condominiums declined by .3 percent from last year to  $347,000. The previous high median sales price for single-family homes was $700,000 in June 2014, while the previous high for condominiums was $360,000 in June 2014. Sales of single-family homes increased by 5 percent, while condominium sales decreased by 1.4 percent from September 2013. According to the Days on Market indicator, single-family homes were on the market for an average of only 19 days, while condominiums were on the market for an average of 23 days.

“September’s housing stats look remarkably similar to those from September 2013,” said Julie Meier, president of the Honolulu Board of REALTORS®. “But that’s an encouraging sign, as we’re seeing a stabilization in sales. Buyer demand is still strong as was indicated by the turnout at the recent homebuyer fair, and the Board was encouraged by the recent announcement pertaining to the creation of more affordable housing in Hawaii Kai. That’s the key to the health of the overall market – we need more housing inventory, particularly affordable units.”
