HCDA rejects 2 Kewalo Basin development proposals – Kakaako

The Hawaii Community Development Agency (HCDA) rejected two Kewalo Basin development proposals on one parcel of the Kewalo Basin plan. Howard Hughes corporation and Kewalo Waterfront Partners both submitted plans to redevelop the commercial and open space surrounding the harbor. HCDA approved Howard Hughes Corporation’s proposal for 2 of the lots and rejected both proposals for the third lot. The third lot is where the McWayne Marine Supply parcel is.

The 2 areas that HCDA did approve was for Howard Hughes Corps land between the Kewalo Basin and Ala Moana Park. Their plan calls for more landscaping, open space and beautification. The Charter Boat parking area would also have “Grab and go” vendors with items such as bottled water, sunscreen and sandwiches.

Howard Hughes corp is motivated to have control over the redevelopment of the small boat harbor as an extension of their Ward Village Masterplan which encompasses some 60 acres in Kakaako.
