Not only do we have year-round weather to accommodate walking at virtually anytime, we do have areas that are very pedestrian friendly.  Fortunately, we have many people of all ages and walks of life that walk for health and you can see them predominantly in the morning and evening around areas like Diamond Head and Kailua.  Thanks to Prevention for recognizing the specialness of our state.

The magazine evaluated cities that had safe streets, beautiful places to walk, mild weather and good air quality for its May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Prevention magazine teamed with the American Podiatric Medical Association and Sperling’s Best Places for the annual survey.

Specific criteria used to create the list included percentage of population that walks for exercise, percentage of adults who walk to work, use of mass transit, parks per square mile, points of interest per square mile, average winter/summer temperatures, and percentage of adults who walk for fitness.
