Nauru Tower condominium is perhaps the most striking example of urban architecture in the Honolulu urban landscape. A single glass tower that is a half cylinder rising over Ala Moana Beach Park.  People continually remark on its appearance. This luxury condo has been voted the best condominium in Honolulu, Hawaii several times. The building management take a great deal of pride in serving the residents and making them feel truly at home.  The location is outstanding as it is easy to get to anywhere in Honolulu via Ala Moana Blvd. It is also within walking distance to hundreds of shops and restaurants at Ala Moana Center and Ward Center.

The building was completed in 1990.  Each floor is roughly divided into 8 units. The penthouse levels have fewer units per floor and are also more spacious.  Unit '01 faces towards Honolulu Harbor and the airport.  There is some view obstruction from surrounding buildings. This unit also faces towards the mountains.  The unit wraps around one end of the cylinder.  Then units'02, '03, '04, '05, 06 and '07 face the ocean and over Ala Moana Beach Park.  The least obstructed views are the '03, '04 and '05 units.  Also, the unit does not have to be very high to have an ocean view.  Unit '08 faces Diamond Head.  There is still ocean view, but the bedrooms face the mountains.  Many residents like this side of the building because it is cooler. The Penthouse levels start on the 33rd floor.  However the most supreme penthouses are on the 43rd and 44th floor.  These are 3 levels with plenty of outdoor lanai space.

The amenities are on the 7th floor and can be accesses by a glass covered bridge.  The pool and barbecue areas are spread out over a park like setting on top of the parking garage.  It is wonderfully maintained. Unfortunately there is no fitness room which is something many people really want.

The biggest upside to the Nauru is being in Kakaako and having unobstructed views of the ocean.  The down sides may be that the floor plans can be a little awkward and it is a little dated.  Some units have been completely remodeled from the original plan.  If location is important, this is one of the best spots. Certainly the Nauru Tower is more affordable than the higher end luxury Kakaako condos being built in the area.

About One Waterfront Tower

One Waterfront Tower condominium building consists of two rather futuristic towers that rise out of the landscape next to downtown Honolulu. The entire One Waterfront development also encompasses the restaurant row development which includes restaurants, shopping, and commercial space. The towers are residential and sit just behind and across South Street.  Because there is nothing currently to obstruct the views, the view out over the busy Honolulu Harbor is very interesting. The Koolani is one of the newer luxury condo buildings in the “it” neighborhood of Honolulu,  Kakaako. The Koolani was built in 2006, it has some special features and amenities that make it truly luxurious.  Most of the units in the building have ocean views. The Koolani also has some of the nicest floor plans of any newer building in Honolulu. Most of the units have a foyer and the bedrooms are separated by the living room. Many units also have a pantry which is something not normally seen in condos under 1200 square feet. Most units still have the original appointments which include nice wood cabinetry, granite counter tops, Viking Appliances and special designer touches such as toilets imported from Italy. These nice touches make it stand out from most other Honolulu condominiums.

The Koolani building is adjacent to the Howard Hughes new redevelopment of their 60+ Acres of land, named Ward Village. The Koolani really stands to benefit from this because much more in the way or shopping and restaurants will be within walking distance of the building. The Waikiki Landmark condo building is emerging from its tumultuous past. This Waikiki condo quite a history, but in the past few years, they have upgraded some things in the building significantly and has a bright future. The beautiful pools on the pool deck were unheated for many years and now it has a heater.  The furniture has been upgraded with lounging furniture and cabanas so residents can enjoy the shade.  The new resident manager has overseen this upgrade of the recreation deck kitchen. It looks fantastic. The addition of a concierge desk at the front door makes the building much more inviting. The Association of Apartment owners have added a big gym in 2019. 

The reality is that the building was built it was planned to be a high-end ultra luxury studio suite. Now we are the beneficiaries. This is a beautiful condominium and made with some of the best materials.  Many floors only have 3 units per floor which make sure you have privacy and quiet from your neighbors. Floors are thick and windows are designed to keep the loud city noises out. Floor plans have a great expanse of windows which are so unlike the traditional boxy design.  It all feels much more luxurious and well planned.  The Waikiki Landmark condominium building is a true gem in Honolulu.

The Waikiki Landmark project came to live around the time of the Japanese real estate bubble in the 1990’s. The initial developer was the former owner of Honolulu Bank, Sukamoto Sia. Lenders foreclosed on the project however and the new owner paid pennies on the dollar. The condo units were sold as leasehold. In 2003 the fee was made available for sale. Not everyone bought the fee, so a few units are still (as of 2013) in leasehold.
The very modern building design was well ahead of it’s time, and even today the Waikiki Landmark architecture continues to stand out and looks very modern. You can spot this unique building from far away.

The Waihonua condo was completed in January 2015.  The Waihonua condominium building is located in the popular neighborhood of Kakaako, it is half a block from Ala Moana and just a few blocks from the beach. The location is fantastic for busy lifestyles and people that want to be in the middle of the action. The building has 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units. Most of the 2 bedroom units have ocean views and the one bedrooms have mauka (mountain) views. With the exception of the Waihonua penthouse levels, the 3 bedroom unit wrap around on either side of the building, so they have windows on 3 sides.  Views are towards the mountain, city and ocean. The least obstructed views are on higher floors and penthouse level.

The interior of the Waihonua units is clean and modern with floor to ceiling glass, wood woods, and carpeting.  The kitchens have wood cabinetry and Bosch appliances. In the large units, the air-conditioning has multiple systems inside to save on energy costs.  High ceilings make the spaces seem bigger and more open. Lanais are located on the odd numbered floors and seem to be more preferred.

The Waihonua amenities are exclusive of all of the items that are a requirement for condo living in Honolulu.  The pool area is open and large, yet has different groups of lounging spaces for a more intimate feeling. There are traditional lounge chairs as well as sofas, chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas for comfort. Also, barbecue areas are close by for outdoor entertaining.  The recreation room is large, modern and comfortable. This room is great for large indoor entertaining. 1001 Wilder condo is an older building on the slopes of Punchbowl, Honolulu (Oahu).  The location of 1001 Wilder is wonderful for getting anywhere in the city fairly quickly.  The condominium units are spacious and the ceilings high. You can enjoy the wonderful city lights view in the evening and you can also see the ocean in the distance.  This building is rather close to the Honolulu art museum and the Blaisdell concert hall.  It is a short drive to both Punahou School and the University of Hawaii.  The building offers many amenities including a heated pool on the roof top deck.

The Harbor court condo is a distinguished building in the downtown urban landscape. Built right across the street from the Aloha Tower, the units have views out over the busy Honolulu Harbor. In the distance many units can view the planes taking off and landing on the reef runway at the Honolulu International Airport.  Despite being in such a busy area, noise has not been a problem for the residents at the Harbor Court. The location, on the corner of Nimitz Highway and Queen Street, makes it very easy to get around Honolulu. All of the units are 2 bedrooms and of generous size with many being over 1400 square feet interior. The original appointments including granite counter tops were well thought  out including air conditioning vents discretely placed in relatively unusable crevices along the wall.
